Based on the concept that “a meal that’s just the right size,” the My Size brand has supported everyday dietary management through easy-to-understand calorie labeling and an extensive menu lineup, earning the support of many consumers.

The brand now includes a wide range of products, including the My Size Regular series, which features a broad lineup of curries, rice bowl toppings, and other menus based on a standard design of 100kcal and no more than 2 grams of salt per serving, as well as the My Size Plus Support Salt 1g series for consumers seeking to further reduce their salt intake.

As Japan’s population continues to age, the needs associated with dietary management are also changing. There is a growing need to support sufficient daily intake of essential nutrients while also addressing consumers’ wish to limit other ingredients, such as salt.

Experts providing nutritional guidance in the field have expressed the view that products designed to help supplement calories and protein while enabling salt control would expand dietary management options for more people facing nutritional challenges. Against this social backdrop, and in response to feedback from professionals, Otsuka Foods developed the new “My Size Plus Support W (Double)” series. The “W” represents the product’s dual support for nutritional supplementation—calories and protein—and salt control.

While retaining the My Size brand’s strength of making calorie calculation simple, this new proposal expands consumer choices and responds to diverse health needs.

■ Nutritional Support and Salt Control in One Product

• Each serving is designed to provide 250kcal, 10 grams of protein, and 1 gram of salt, making it easy for consumers to incorporate the product into their daily meals while getting sufficient calories and protein and limiting salt intake. The package design also allows consumers to check key nutritional information at a glance, supporting everyday dietary management.

■ Flavor Design That Balances Great Taste and Ease of Eating

• Even within the constraint of 1 gram of salt, the series achieves a satisfying overall taste by employing a carefully selected combination of ingredients. Across the lineup, the series has been developed to offer a mild, easy-to-eat taste for a wide range of consumers. The curry offers a creamy, rich flavor, while the Oyako-Don features a gentle taste that makes use of bonito flakes and kelp dashi. Mabo-Don, in particular, reflects feedback received during tasting sessions from consumers who said they liked a mild flavor with reduced spiciness. As a result, the product has been developed to offer “shokara,” a level of spiciness between mild and medium-hot. Sesame oil, Chinese chili bean, and Tianmian sauce add richness and umami, resulting in an easy-to-eat taste.
